FAQ

What does "from the hip" mean?

In street photography, shooting from the hip means shooting without looking through the viewfinder, keeping the camera down at hip level, which is pretty incognito, wouldn't you say? You'll be glad to know that i'm not going to show up at your wedding and never look through the viewfinder! But like a documentary photographer shooting from the hip, i want my camera to be secondary to the personal interaction we share. What I appreciate most about my couples is how each one is different. I always want to learn who you are so that your wedding photos tell YOUR story. when you pull your photos out in 10 years, that's what i want you to see. your story. your day.

Did you go to school for this or something?

I did! I majored in Fine Art at Georgia Southwestern State University. Due to life getting crazy in my senior year, I took a break from Art school. I'm also a beauty school dropout. Maybe I need a guardian angel like Debbie Reynolds had in Tammy.

Is your style right for me?

From the Hip is for brides that can't stop smiling and grooms that can't stop crying and people who can laugh at themselves. I work best with couples who have joy, security in themselves, and a good sense of humor. Every couple and every wedding is different and that's what I love most about being a wedding photographer. I love it when people don't know/don't care what they're expected to do. if the words "supposed to" come out of my mouth, you can bet some air quotes will be involved. This day is for you. Who cares how anyone else on the planet does it?

I know that your style is not traditional. Do you take any formal family photos?

Absolutely! I understand that most couples are going to want some formal family photos taken on their wedding day. We would encourage you to keep the list somewhat short. Trust me, you do not want to miss half your reception because you're stuck taking 457 combinations of photos with the same 6 people. This is definitely something I can help you with as you begin filling out the questionnaires after booking. But the short of it is that you're the boss when it comes to the formals.

Do you travel?

I do! And I love it. Contact me for a custom travel quote.

what's the process to book?

Once you've taken a look at the menu, I'll be happy to meet you in person or we can Skype to talk about your big day! If you decide that you're ready to move forward, a deposit of 30% of your chosen package reserves your wedding date, and this amount is included in your final balance. Then I will email you the contract, which you can sign and send back to me online. Then you're all booked! After booking, you will receive two short surveys about your wedding details that will help me get all your info organized. You'll also have your own personal client portal that you can log into at any time to see your contract, billing info, questionnaires, etc.

Do you put a schedule together for me?

Once you have answered your questionnaires, if you have a planner or coordinator, I will get in contact with them, and then I should have all the info I need to put a tentative schedule together. Once I send it to you, you are more than welcome to ask for any changes you feel are necessary. It is really important to me not to monopolize my couples on their wedding day! I want you to enjoy your guests and I try to keep things on the photo front as brief and painless as possible!
